What a crazy week it’s been in Arizona! On Monday, a massive amount of rain greeted us, resulting in images like the one you see above (which may or may not be photoshopped). It left cars abandoned on freeways, homes underwater, and an empty Resound Office. Most of the team wasn’t able to come in because of the closed roads and water.
In what is being referred to as a once-in-500-to-1,000-years rainfall event, this was one of the worst rainfalls that Arizona has ever seen. By 7am, we had already accumulated 3 inches of rain, which broke a previous Arizona record set in 1933. At the end of the day, we had 4.41 inches of rain. To put that in perspective, in an average monsoon season, we can expect to get 3 total inches of rain spread over 3 months!
Needless to say…this state is not set up for that much rain in a couple hours. Cars were stranded, and we were flooded with images like something out of an apocalypse movie.
The flood definitely reminded Resound of one thing, and no, it wasn’t that we should build an ark. It was that we are very fortunate to work in a digital industry!
We heard numerous stories of companies that had to shut down their business for the entire day just to preserve what they had; retail stores protecting their products, warehouses keeping their inventory dry, and roads too flooded to deliver packages.
Then there’s Resound. All working from home and still able to meet deadlines for clients. Sure, we may not have been at full force, but we were still able to work. It’s very reassuring to know that we can work from wherever we need to, rain or shine!
